Celebrating Single Working Women

As societies around the world progress, they are slowly but surely erasing the age-old stigma associated with single and/or working women. However, they still face numerous challenges in the workplace and society. Single Working Women’s Week celebrates the resilience, strength, and achievements of single women who are gainfully employed.

This week, we recognize the contributions that employees make to their workplaces, families, and communities. They often manage multiple roles with grace and determination.

“At David Lerner Associates, we believe in honoring the dedication and perseverance of single working women, highlighting their successes, and offering support to help them achieve their financial and personal goals,” says David Neuwirth, Senior Vice President, Investments at David Lerner Associates, Inc.

History of Single Working Women’s Week

In 2006, Barbara Payne, a single working woman for over 25 years—12 of them also as a single mom—founded Single Working Women’s Week. The idea came to her while she and three single friends hung out on Easter Sunday morning. They pondered why there were numerous holidays for moms, dads, married couples, and more, but no one acknowledged single women’s unique contributions to the world.

The week aims to raise awareness about single-working women’s unique challenges, including balancing work and personal life, managing finances independently, and overcoming societal stereotypes.

Over the years, this week has grown and flourished in popularity, with numerous events, activities, and campaigns organized to honor single working women and support their endeavors.
