David Lerner Associates, a privately held securities broker-dealer headquartered in Syosset, New York, recently held an event to honor Leanne Simonsen, the widow of NYPD Detective Brian Simonsen of Calverton who was tragically killed in the line of duty by friendly fire earlier this year. During the ceremony, David Lerner Associates presented Simonsen with a check for $2,500 through the Long Island Police Crisis Fund to help support her and her family. Since 1991, David Lerner Associates has contributed more than $400,000 to the Police Crisis Fund, largely through the annual David Lerner Associates Long Island Police Appreciation Run at Eisenhower Park.

“We all mourn the loss of Detective Simonsen and our sincerest condolences are with Leanne and their family during this unfortunate time,” said David Lerner Associates President John Dempsey. “As a business that operates on Long Island, we feel that it is crucial to show our support to the families of the police officers that keep our neighborhoods safe. The Police Crisis Fund does incredible work to support families of law enforcement officers who have experienced traumatic situations, and it is our honor to contribute to it each year so it can continue to protect the families who need it most.”

The event was also attended by NYPD detectives and representatives from the Greater Long Island Running Club, which organizes the David Lerner Associates Long Island Police Appreciation Run each year. In addition, David Lerner Associates announced that this year’s charitable event—the 28th annual installation—will take place on June 6, 2019, at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, NY.

“Sponsoring this event and giving back to the Police Crisis Fund is a significant part of who we are as a company and as fellow members of the Long Island community,” said David Lerner Associates Executive Vice President Marty Walcoe. “This event is intended to raise awareness of the invaluable service Long Island’s law enforcement provides to our community and we encourage everyone to celebrate and support the officers who keep us safe.
