Financial Planning and You

The fact that October is Financial Planning Month should not escape your attention. Making sure that you have a plan in place is essential if you want to live your life without worrying.

The statistics show that 58% of Americans feel that the financial planning efforts they have in place need improvement. Even more telling is the fact that 34% of Americans seem to have no planning in place at all.

Having no financial plan is a sure way to either get yourself into debt or to get stuck paying out of pocket. Budgeting for today as well as the future is something everyone should be able to do. A comprehensive financial plan is a plan which covers savings and investments such as planning for retirement, education, and emergencies. It also includes savings for major purchases and other financial goals such as insurance needs.

“Planning your finances means you’re able to decode where you spend and also where you invest your hard-earned money. Make sure you get professional advice, and get all the information before you pull the trigger on any and all investment opportunities. The more knowledge you have, the better you will be able to plan,” says David Lerner Associates Executive Vice President Martin Walcoe.

Financial planning is not just for the 1% either. According to a study by Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, comprehensive financial plans benefit even people at lower income levels.

Make sure you have a financial plan in place, and if you don’t have one already, this is the month to do so.
