The Greater Long Island Running Club and David Lerner Associates joined forces once again on January 19th to provide a stipend of $3,000 to the family of Nassau County Police 8th Precinct Police Service Aide, Catherine Jurgens.

The Greater Long Island Running Club and David Lerner Associates joined forces once again on January 19th to provide a stipend of $3,000 to the family of Nassau County Police 8th Precinct Police Service Aide, Catherine Jurgens.

Mrs. Jurgens’ infant son, Declan, was born in June of 2023 with Prader-Willi Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that causes constant hunger, low muscle tone, poor growth, and other physical and mental problems. After many months in the hospital, Declan finally came home with a feeding tube, making progress with the help of home therapists. On Monday, January 8th, it was discovered that Declan had fluid building up in his brain, necessitating emergency brain and spine surgery. Catherine and her husband Mike (who is with NYPD ECT), have been by Declan’s side in Cohen’s Children’s Hospital, while grandparents take care of their other two young boys, ages 6 & 8. Declan has now been diagnosed with a form of meningitis and a possible brain tumor.

The cost of caring for Declan has far exceeded any possible insurance coverage, and the Running Club and David Lerner Associates were thrilled to step in and help.

The $3,000 donation came from the proceeds of the Long Island Police Crisis Foundation, managed by the Running Club and David Lerner Associates, which, in turn, is funded by the proceeds of the annual David Lerner Associates Long Island Police Appreciation Run, staged for the 33rd year on June 15th, 2023.

David Lerner Associates has been the prime sponsor of the Run and the efforts to help Long Island Police families in need since 1994.

Valerie Troise (L), Nassau Police Inspector Alan Hirsch (2nd L), Long Island Police Appreciation Run Mike Polansky (2nd R), David Lerner Associates Executive Vice President Anthony Meere (R), and Declan’s brothers Connor and Riley look on with approval.
