Small Business Week 2024

For more than five decades, the U.S. Small Business Administration (S.B.A) has celebrated Small Business Week (NSBW), which recognizes the vital contributions that small businesses make to our economy and communities.

“Over 50 percent of Americans are either employed by or own a small business, contributing to the creation of approximately two-thirds of all new jobs annually in the United States,” says Robert Cavanagh, Senior Vice President of Investments at David Lerner Associates, Inc.

During National Small Business Week, the SBA spotlights exceptional entrepreneurs, small business owners, and supporters of entrepreneurship who strive to expand small enterprises, generate 21st-century employment opportunities, foster innovation, and enhance America’s global competitiveness.

In addition to honoring exceptional entrepreneurs, this week’s objective is to inspire other small business owners to glean insights from the marketing strategies and operational practices of larger enterprises, empowering them to expand and enhance their own ventures.

When is Small Business Week 2024?

Small Business Week is typically observed during the first week of May. In 2024, it will be celebrated from April 28 to May 4, providing an opportunity for individuals and communities to come together to support small businesses. It’s a time to recognize the hard work, innovation, and resilience of small business owners and entrepreneurs nationwide.

History of Small Business Week

Since the U.S. gained independence in 1776, the American Dream has inspired people to pursue fortune, often through small-scale businesses.

The California Gold Rush attracted many entrepreneurs who later established businesses nationwide. This tradition led to creating the ‘Land of Opportunity’ catchphrase.

The Small Business Administration (S.B.A.) was formed in 1953 to help small businesses to prosper and grow into sustainable future businesses.

1963, President Kennedy proclaimed the first National Small Business Week, honoring top entrepreneurs and inspiring others.

Since then, Small Business Week has evolved into an annual celebration that highlights the achievements and challenges of small business owners and entrepreneurs.

Who Gets Involved in Small Business Week?

Small Business Week is a time for everyone to support small businesses. This includes small business owners consumers, community leaders, policymakers, and organizations that provide support and resources to small businesses. It’s a collaborative effort to raise awareness about the importance of small businesses and promote their success.
