3 Remote Work Trends that Will Dominate 2019

It’s work, but not as we know it.

Working remotely is becoming an accepted part of the normal workplace. Technology has changed much of what we do, and there are a few trends that we will see in the next year.

Communication tools

As working remotely becomes more common, the newer tools that help teams keep track of their projects are going to be used more frequently, even in regular offices. You might be on the same floor or a few doors down from the person you are chatting with, but you’ll be using an instant messenger or video call through an online collaboration platform. Your team could all be in the same building, as well as extra team members who could perhaps be out of state or even international, but you’ll be able to stay current and connected, on target and networked.

Security

As we move into a digital world, our messages and files are being shared all over the place. Companies will increase the focus on security. Accidentally sending a reply email from the wrong email address on your smartphone is just one security breach that can easily be made.

38 percent of employees hired by SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) don’t have the necessary tech support or expertise when working at home, or worse still, in public spaces using communal Wi-Fi. Working on documents that need to be kept confidential at a counter in the local coffee shop, might seem OK to someone, but it could be potentially extremely harmful to the client and company. A secure virtual data room is one solution to this problem.

FASB/IASB

FASB/IASB (Financial Accounting Standards Board/International Accounting Standards Board) announced accounting changes this year in the U.S. that affect every company that leases commercial real estate. In fact, if you lease anything, you need to be aware the rules have changed. This could mean you lease a smaller space, or change the way you work with a team.

Working remotely might be on the rise due to these new rules, pushing employers to change the way they think about space and teams. Keeping up-to-date with what’s happening with technology and the way it is changing every part of our lives is interesting, but it also provides opportunities.

As communicating with one another becomes more advanced, the more people will be working remotely. Perhaps soon most people will work remotely and the architecture of cities will have to change. High-rise office blocks could be left behind with the majority of people working in different environments all across the United States and the world.
